The ingredients of the tomato sauce recipe
1½ tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 or 2 cloves garlic—peeled and pressed (or finely chopped)
¼ cup onion, peeled and finely chopped
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (16 or 14 1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes (or a can of plum tomatoes and chop them yourself)
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
½ teaspoon basil leaves
½ teaspoon oregano leaves
½ teaspoon thyme leaves
½ teaspoon sea salt (optional)
1 teaspoon honey
freshly ground black pepper according to taste
Use organic ingredients if possible.
The method for the tomato sauce recipe
You will need a large iron frying pan with cover.
(a) Heat oil in pan over medium low heat.
(b) Add onion and garlic. Sauté and stir occasionally until soft and almost brown (but not black).
(c) Stir in all the remaining ingredients. Simmer on very low heat, covered, for several hours until thick, stirring occasionally.
I [Dennis] seem to recall that I originally got this recipe from the Redbook cookbook decades ago. I've often gotten requests for it. If you can afford the carbs, it is an excellent sauce that you can use for many weight loss recipes. It's very flavorful, so you can use it in moderation.
