Canned sockeye salmon recipes are quick and easy to prepare. Salmon makes an excellent high protein low carbohydrate meal. Wild salmon is the best; use sockeye salmon if you can get it. As long as it is wild caught, it doesn't have to be sockeye salmon. All sockeye salmon, though, are wild caught. Wild salmon is one of the best sources of protein and when combined with fresh vegetables or salad makes a tasty healthy meal.

Recipe for Salmon Patties: Ingredients

This salmon patties recipe uses canned salmon but you can use fresh salmon if preferred.

  • 1 can (approx 14¾ ounces) of sockeye salmon (drained)
  • 2 large beaten eggs (preferably free-range or organic)
  • 1/4 cup minced green onions (spring onions)
  • 1 teaspoon of lime or lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons parsley flakes (optional)
  • 1 minced garlic clove (optional)
  • 1/2 cup plain pork rinds, finely ground, preferably homemade
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise (preferably homemade)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • a little oil for frying (coconut oil is the best)

Do not add salt if the canned salmon was in salt brine.

Use organic ingedients as far as possible.

Recipe for Salmon Patties: Method

Remove any bones from the salmon. Combine the beaten eggs, salmon, mayonnaise, minced garlic, ground pork rinds, parsley, lemon juice, and black pepper, in a large bowl. Blend well.

Spread the salmon patties mixture across a dish or a large plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This will stiffen the mixture and make it easier to handle.

When you are ready to cook, remove the patty mixture from the refrigerator and form into salmon patties.

Fry the salmon patties in a non-stick pan with a little oil for 3 to 4 minutes each side until golden brown. Although this is a fried salmon patties recipe you can bake the patties in an oven if you prefer.

Serve with a green salad or vegetables for a balanced healthy meal. This completes the salmon patties recipe.
